This past Sunday, Michelle, Emmett and I took the stroller down to Blacksmith’s in Hugo, to Emmett’s first swap meet.
We put him in the stroller, and he slept most of the morning, doing a little looking around. We ran into Titus from the HAMB, and he had a nice GM Tilt & Telescoping Steering column for cheap, so we bought it, and on the way back to the car, we found a cool old three gauge cluster with three generic gauges in it. It’s cast aluminum, and chromed, and kinda 60′s-ish, so we’ll use it in the truck.
I was reading the Hemmings Blog this morning, and came across this very cool BMW Motorcycle. They say they believe it to be a 1920′s BMW R32 model.
I thought those of you who are into bikes would dig this one. I really like the lines of it. It reminded me of the vintage Harley, Fred Fox showed me in the basement of LeMans a few years ago when I was there on business. He had just taken delivery of this bike which was still in the original crate, and had just taken the top and sides off. He said he had found it online, and the story was that it was a surplus military bike that was forgotten in either Africa or Australia (my memory is bad).
On the 26th of January, Jessica and I went to the World of Wheels at the St. Paul River Centre. I don’t know my way around St. Paul like I do Minneapolis, so I kind of ‘aimed’ at the river, and figured I’d pick up Kellogg to the River Centre ramp. Well… I didn’t realize they would have all the streets blocked off for the Winter Carnival, and the Grand Day Parade! So, we drove around looking for a landmark I recognized. The third time past Mickey’s diner Jessica was looking worried.
We finally found a spot pretty close to the show for only $10. We walked about three blocks, and got to see the ice sculptures in Rice Park which was pretty cool. Once we got inside, we tried to take tons of photos, but they ended up pretty blurry. I really, really liked the ’37 Ford four door sedan… and the red with white wall tired F-100. Jessica’s favorite was “Vampyre” the purple bubble-top custom. There were some other stand outs, but it was really busy and hard to get at them all without people in the way, so I mostly just gave up and enjoyed looking around.
We ran into Tuck, who had his ranchero there, and chatted for a while, along with seeing Jim Halverson and Loren Magnison, who I haven’t seen for years. It was a good day even though we only spent a couple hours there… my back had an attention span about as long as Jessica did!
While I was unable to attend SEMA, KIRK! from the HAMB was there taking photos. One of them which happened to grab my attention was this Hot Wheels prototype that looks like something between an early Corvette, and a 30′s or 40′s European race car.
