I put in about a ba-jillion hours at work this past couple of weeks, so I took off at about 12:30pm yesterday. I came home, ate lunch, pet the dog, and they headed out to remove the old front suspension from the truck.
I had leveled the truck front to back and side to side on Monday evening, and done some initial work on Wednesday evening, so I just had to grab my sawzall and angle grinder and go!
Removing the front of the leaf springs went quick… the easiest way was to cut an ‘X’ in the head of the rivets, then take a chisel/punch and chop the four little “pizza slices” out. However at the back where the rear of the leaf springs mounted, it wasn’t easy to get the chisel in, so I ended up doing a combination of slicing and grinding the heads off.
It took about three and a half hours, but this is where I left it last night:
As for the frame, I did some measuring, and marked the NEW axle centerline 1″ forward of the old one.
