Well, I FINALLY got some wheels for the rear of the truck… I think they are just a titch too wide, but they look really good. They were out at Brook Park Enterprises mounted on the rear of a mid-fifties International pickup. They are in good shape, and hopefully I’ll be able to get some tires for cheap, mounted on them.
Here is one on the International:

And here is one on my 1953 Ford F-100:

I think they look MUCH nicer on my truck!

Well, the axle is in, aside from some adjustment, and tightening of U-bolts (and welding on the spring perches, etc)! I’m pretty excited about it! It’s kind of almost ridiculously low though… but it’s nice to have some work done on it, it feels like I’m getting somewhere!

Jessie gave us a scare yesterday, her appendix ruptured, and she needed to have surgery last nite! She ran a temperature overnite, but she is eating a popsicle, and feeling better this morning. She was quite the trooper, and hopefully will be coming home in a few days.

Well, I was able to get the axle mounted on the leaf springs yesterday, and all of my custom brackets worked wonderfully! (can you tell I’m a bit surprised?) Anyways, I also drilled out all of the spring shackle mounting holes except for three… I picked up a Makita Sawzall yesterday, and that will help me make short work of the last ones. I also broke a drill bit off in one of them, so I can just drill out the drill bit…
Hopefully later today I’ll have it back on four wheels, and be able to roll it out into the driveway, so I can get the Jeep in, and replace the catalytic converter.

Well, I stopped working on the truck about three weeks ago (and started again this past weekend, so don’t worry!), due to having some pretty severe back pain. I went to see the surgeon last week, and had an MRI. Everything is okay, but I have to take is pretty easy, since the disc that I had surgery on has collapsed. I went and continued working on the truck this past weekend, trying to get the new rear axle in place… I managed to FINALLY get the rear leaf spring hangers loose, and now I just have to drill out their mounting holes, as a few of the rivets are rusted into place.
I’m hoping to get back out there when it warms up, or this coming Saturday, whichever is first. Also, I stopped up to Tuck’s shop, and we discussed z-ing the front of my truck, to get it low. I think we’re going to trade some slave (me) labor for a few weekends, for the use of Tuck’s shop and tools, and his help, and knowledge. Sounds like a fun project to me… hopefully that’ll happen in the next six or eight weeks.
Anyways, that’s all the news worth reporting…
